A fine example of a rare continental iron mounted oak strong box with superb colour and patina.
The whole of the outside mounted with beautiful pieced iron work.
The top opening to reveal a fitted section with secret drawers.
These beautiful boxes where used as pillows by the traders when sleeping to keep their valuables safe
A similar example is in the Rouen musee Le des Tournelles and states that the mounts could be Russian.
